The special smartphone, which started as a Kickstarter project and was in the news recently due to the big changes it brought to the smartphone industry has finally made its place in India. Nextbit Robin, the Cloud-first smartphone was announced in India today and has been very attractively priced at Rs. 19,999 ($297). The phone is available in two colour options – Mint and Midnight and shall be exclusively on Flipkart, starting from Monday.

Well, talking of the technical specifications on the Nextbit Robin – it really gives Nextbit boasting rights since they have managed to offer top of the line specifications at this price. The phone comes with 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, 3GB of RAM and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor. Apart from this, Robin sports a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 5-megapixel front camera, a 2680mAh battery, a fingerprint sensor and a USB Type-C charging port. The phone will also support LTE, WiFi and shall be shipping with Android 6.0 Marshmallow right out of the box. Well, that’s not just it…

Tom Moss, CEO and Co-Founder Nextbit, said, “India is home to the second largest smartphone market in the world and it’s hard to ignore. Robin’s premium design and performance are a natural fit for such a demanding market. Our commitment to fast OS updates and our unique smart storage is perfect for people who constantly want more from their phone.”

Cloud Storage on Nextbit Robin

What gives Robin the edges over the other smartphones currently dominating the smartphone market at this price point is the cloud storage facility. Apart from the 32GB of internal storage (not expandable), the manufacturers offer  every user 100GB of cloud storage, which can be used to backup their phone and clear the lesser used items, like old pictures, media files, documents and much more. The operating system is so designed that it will intelligently analyse the files and applications stored on the phone and move them to cloud, if there’s a need to.

Charming, isn’t it?

Shankar Parasaram, Head of India Operations for Nextbit Systems, added, “We are very excited to introduce Robin to the India market. With a unique combination of premium design, smart storage with 100 GB online space and near stock Android experience, we can connect with the aspirational values of Indian users, while addressing storage limitations so many of us have experienced.
