Gionee Marathon M4 with a 5000mAh Battery Announced in India

Battery life seems to be an achilles heel of just about every smartphone that is out there. Even the likes of Samsung Galaxy S6 or the second generation of Motorola Moto X, which were some of the better designed and therefore desired products really struggled when it came to having an acceptable battery life. It is one technology that we have miserably failed to have mastered and improve significantly given how far we have come with our screens, processing power and even flash storage.

The mantra to improve the battery life of any phone today seems to be either stuffing in a massive battery pack on the back, which would make any smartphone thicker and thus spoil the physical attributes of the device, like its looks or simply to include quick charging and promising the users that while your phone will not last you even good part of a day, it will still charge up in a short duration of time for you to deplete it.

Gionee, a Chinese manufacturer, seems to be following the route one in this case and that is to stuff a bigger and a fatter battery life in the phone and strip off any unwanted jing-bang from the device that may deplete the battery life.

The Marathon series from Gionee does exactly this, and the latest flagship in the series has been announced in India in the form of Gionee Marathon M4, with a massive 5000 mph battery. The M4 runs exactly the UI and Android version as the flagship product from the company, which is the Gionee S7. It is running Android 5.0 with Amigo UI on top. The device comes with a Super AMOLED HD panel which measures 5 inches and is powered by a 1.3 GHz Quadcore Chip and a Mali 400 GPU. The device does support Dual SIM cards and has LTE capabilities on both of them. The rear camera on board is an 8 MP sensor while the front facing camera is 5 MP.

Weighing almost 176 grams and a thickness of over 10 mm, the Gionee M4 is by no means a style diva like the Gionee S5.1 or the Gionee S7. However, compared to its predecessor that the M3 was, the M4 definitely looks better from the press renders. You can see that the phone has a nice chamfer edge to it, with rubber back and what looks like capacitive buttons instead of on screen ones. The device will be available at all Gionee retail stores for a price of Rs. 15,499 in both black and white variants.
