The Weekly Tech Wrap-up (20 June 2015)

Technology is the quantification of dynamics and innovation, with the amount of changes and the Tech news floating on the Internet we bring to you the news dominating the headlines over the past week, which has seen the launch of Adobe Creative Cloud 2015 and the launch of the FairPhone 2 and other major events such as the Microsoft E3 Conference , here is the roundup for the week.

Bharti Airtel increases data rates of 3G and 2G networks for pre-paid customers in Delhi NCR:


Bharti Airtel has increased mobile internet tariffs of 2G and 3G services for pre-paid users in Delhi NCR, becoming the second mobile operator after Idea! to raise the prices which was imminent given the March spectrum auction, 3G charges increased by 18 per cent for 1GB plans whereas 2G increased by 13 per cent, effectively making the cost Rs 299 for 1 GB 3G and Rs 199 for 1 GB 2G.

Airtel launches trial run of 4G services in the Delhi NCR region:

Bharti Airtel has started the trial run of 4G services in the Delhi NCR regions where prepaid and postpaid subscribers can avail 4G plans and speed at a complimentary 3G rates. The company said it will collect data and user experience before launching it on a large scale. Airtel is offering 4G plans with double data for several phones such as the Moto E 4G, Samsung Galaxy A7, S5 etc.

Micromax Launches Canvas Silver 5:


Micromax on Thursday announced the latest iteration to its lineup of smartphones with the Canvas Silver 5. At 97 grams it is claimed to be the lightest phone in the world. The Canvas Silver has a 4.8-inch AMOLED screen with 1280 x 720 pixels resolution (306 ppi), it runs the latest iteration of Android that is Android 5.0 Lollipop, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor accompanied by 2 GB RAM. It has a Sony 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera with a plethora of features. It also has Dirac HD sound, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 2000 mAh battery under the hood and is a 4G LTE enabled smartphone.

OnePlus 2 expected to launch in July with improved Snapdragon 810 processor:

OnePlus the company which took the smartphone industry by storm in 2014 with the OnePlusOne which offered top of the line hardware at jaw dropping prices, is already back in the news with information regarding the impending launch of the OnePlusOne’s successor OnePlusTwo. The OnePlusTwo is expected to have a 5.5 or 6 inch display with a 64 bit Snapdragon 810 SoC processor under the hood, with 3 or 4 GB of RAM, there are unconfirmed reports regarding the screen which is expected to remain FullHD (1920×1080) and will have a 16 GB or 64 GB built-in  option with rumored expandable storage, it is also predicted to have a 16 MP rear and 5 MP front camera. It is also expected to ship with the OnePlus developed OxygenOS based on Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The price is expected to be higher than last given the CEO’s tweet saying $400 is a reasonable price for a flagship smartphone.

Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Stock:

Adobe Systems announced the latest iteration of its software suite with Creative Cloud 2015, the update brought about major changes with new tools and bug fixes. With the new update Adobe Illustrator will now run 10x faster and is also 10 times more precise as compared to previous iterations, it launched Abode Hue CC which will be used to provide production-quality lighting and color schemes for video, film and broadcast captured using an iPhone camera. Adobe also introduced Adobe Stock, which  is an amalgamation of about 40 million images and graphics which can be used by graphic developers and artists worldwide for a fee. Also, Following Lightroom Mobile, Android users can now download Photoshop Mix, Shape, Brush, and Color. The apps are available on the Google Play store and while they’re free to download, some features require an Adobe CC subscription. Adobe has also updated many of its popular Creative Cloud mobile apps for iPhone and iPad. It has also integrated wider security options and deeper integration into the Adobe Marketing Cloud.

Amsterdam based FairPhone launches new flagship FP 2:

FairPhone Inc., unveiled the FairPhone 2 a modular smartphone which the company said is an “ethical phone” built for customizability and longevity, it is expected to launch by the end of the year, the FairPhone FP2 in its initial condition, will include a Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB Storage In Built, an 8 MP camera and a high capacity and user removable battery of 2420 mAh and comes with two SIM slots and can be improvised using modules which can be replaced quite easily using a screwdriver. The company grabbed attention with its policy against the use of conflict minerals and and its fair labor policies, and was voted one of the Best European Tech Startups.

Microsoft E3 Event:

One June 15, Microsoft held the E3 2015 conference, where it sprung several surprises such as the HoloLens and made several important announcements such as the important update that would allow Xbox 360 games to be played on the Xbox One, a new Xbox One controller and a significant announcement which excited me personally was of Halo 5: Guardians, one of the most popular FPS games of all time was showcased using the HoloLens with enough grandeur to convince us that it is going to be big, it includes several new features including a warzone mode for multiplayer. It also announced an early access scheme where you can play Xbox One games before they are release and also announced Minecraft for HoloLens, Gears 4 next year and a glimpse at the next iteration of Lara Croft Tomb Raider game announced last year.
