Gionee Marathon M5 with 6,020mAh Battery Launched

Gionee has launched its new flagship Elife E8 and a second Marathon M5 smartphone in Beijing, China. The biggest selling point of the M5 is the 6020 mAh battery that Gionee says will last for up to 4 days. Gionee claims the M5’s standby time is 62 hours even if there is only 5% battery left. Additionally the M5 is capable of reverse charging which means you can use it as a power bank to power two other mobile phones. The Marathon M3, which preceded the new M5, offered a whopping 5000 mAh battery, but with enhanced battery management and dual charging chips, the M5 is a true beast of endurance.

The Marathon M5 has a 5.5inch HD AMOLED screen, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage space. This device runs on Android 5.1 (Lollipop) with Amigo UI 3.1. It bundles a 1.5 GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735 64-bit processor with Mali-T760 GPU, 2 GB of RAM, 4G LTE (on both slots) and 16GB of onboard storage, which can be expanded by means of the microSD slot. The WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, USB OTG assure good connectivity.  The shooters include the 13MP rear camera with LED Flash, 5P lenses, 1080p video recording and the 5MP front-facing camera with 84-degree ultra-wide angle lens

It has unibody metal build with a narrow frame and is just 8.5mm thick (4.75mm edge), even though it packs a huge battery. Gionee managed to restrict the thinness of the device by having two units of 3,010mAh battery rather than a single one. Though the device flaunts the thin design, the phone is still on the ugly side in our perspective. The dual-SIM Gionee Marathon M5 will arrive in black, white and gold color options on June 25th, and with a price tag of $370 (~ Rs.23,000), is designed for those who wish to spend “more time using and less time wall-hugging.
