Oppo Launches R7 and R7 Plus in Beijing

Through a much-teased event held in Beijing, China, Oppo has made its speculated 2015 devices official. The Chinese manufacturer, on Wednesday, launched both, the Oppo R7 and Oppo R7 Plus. Priced at CNY 2,499 (~ Rs. 25,700) for the Oppo R7 and CNY 2,999 (~ Rs. 30,900) for the Oppo R7 Plus, these aren’t the flagship offerings. Both smartphones will be available in China starting tomorrow and come in gold and silver. International markets will see the new Oppo hardware in June.

Nope, these aren’t the near-bezel-less phones that Oppo teased us with back in March, but they are still very compelling. Following the super slim R5, the Chinese company has shifted its focus back to specs with two new models, the 5-inch R7 and the 6-inch R7 Plus. As for the R7 Plus, Oppo has gone all out with the 6-inch display (1080p). Specifications are similar to those sported by the R7, but there are some handful of improvements, including 32GB of internal storage. The R7 Plus also has a more advanced camera setup, with laser autofocus and dual-LED flash. The battery is where things get interesting with a 4,100mAh cell installed. As an added bonus, there’s a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the Plus. The Oppo R7 is powered by the Snapdragon 615 CPU, a 64-bit octa-core processor, accompanied by 3GB of RAM. You’ve then got 16 GB of internal storage, complemented by the available MicroSD slot. The main shooter is a 13MP camera with a f/2.2 lens. Battery-wise, there’s a 2,320mAh power plant installed.

The sad news is that the R7 is only launching with Android 4.4 in China tomorrow, followed by international markets in mid-June, but it’ll eventually be updated given that the R7 Plus will be pre-loaded with Android 5.1 come August.
