Motorola to make an 'exciting announcement' on 25 February

With the World Mobile Conference just around the corner, companies are about to reveal a diverse arsenal of smart phones for the consumers to fawn over. There was no surprise when teasers for a surprise on 25th February started making rounds on the internet. In an unorthodox marketing approach, instead of holding a launch event Motorola will send the surprise packed in a box to the doorsteps of a few select media houses.

According to reports and rumors, Motorola might be launching the LTE version of Moto E. Recent leak by UK’s shopping portal Argos who inadvertently listed unreleased Motorola phones like Moto G Titan LTE and Moto E Styrx LTE for $242 and $166 respectively have only added fuel to fire. Motorola has dominated the sub-$200 category in most countries for a while now, launching a LTE version of the popular Moto G and Moto E will only further the popularity of these two devices. Considering the fact that Lenovo A6000 offers LTE along with 64 GB computing capacity, it is highly likely that Motorola will offer something similar or more in its latest update.

Some preliminary specifications of the Moto E (Gen 2) include a 4.5 inch qHD display, a 5 MP rear camera with LED flash and LTE connectivity. On the other hand the Moto G Titan is tipped to feature a similar 5-inch display but could weigh 6 grams more than the current 3G model.

Motorola has made a spate of announcements recently, including the return of the prodigal son in China during the Chinese New Year. The company has reasons to be encouraged by its prospects considering it used to hold about 40% market share in china.

Other than these two models, Motorola had recently announced the launch of its high end device Moto Maxx and will soon launch it with Flipkart, their exclusive sales partner in India. While we still don’t know the price point of the phone, the 64GB version of the device was recently launched in Brazil priced at BRL 2,199 (Rs. 48,000). Unfortunately we still don’t have an exact date for the launch.

The battle for smart phone market has been brewing in India for some time with e-commerce websites fighting for ever inch. Enticing customers with lucrative offers like cash back, exchange offers and free gifts, retailers are leaving no stoned unturned. Some of Motorola’s competitors include the Redmi 1s, Lenovo A6000 and Huawei Holly.
