Bangalore Railway Station become first to provide WiFi Facility

Today onwards Bangalore Railway Station will be providing free internet access and in doing so the Indian railways has taken its first step towards modernizing Indian Railway Stations.

The passengers will be able to enjoy 30 minutes of high speed internet after which they will have the option of paying for internet. Priced at Rs. 25 for 30 minutes and Rs. 35 for one hour and are valid through 24 hours. Additional browsing time can also be purchased on-line using credit/debit cards. The user can also purchase scratch cards, which will be made available at the Wi-Fi Help Desk.

RailWire – the retail Broadband distribution model of RailTel Corporation of India Ltd, a PSU of Railway Ministry, is involved in distribution of internet bandwidth through WiFi. RailTel has been mandated to provide internet bandwidth to other major railway stations throughout the country.

“The WiFi facility at Bangalore is operational after the inaugural of the service by Railway Minister, Sadananda Gowda recently,” said the official, adding that “with the implementation of the service, Bangalore Railway Station becomes the first station in the country to have WiFi facility for passengers.”

Even though we are yet to receive any information about the speed of internet service provided or whether or not the government will collect data from devices connecting to the WiFi.
