We all know how irritating Autocorrect was and we got used to it, but iOS 8 now offers ‘QuickType’ a predictive typing which is sensitive to content and the recipient i.e. it knows you might swear in a text to your friend – but not to your mom. If you don’t like it you can turn it off by going to Settings > General > Keyboard and turn off the ‘Predictive’ option.

Self-Timer in the Camera App

With the iOS 8 comes a newer and better Camera app, loaded with filters and modes like, Slo-Mo, and Time Lapse. But it also came with the most awaited and wanted feature, the Self-timer.

Shazam Integration, with Siri

With iOS 8, Shazam comes integrated with Siri, which means that you can ask Siri, _“Which song is playing?” _or something similar and Siri will reply with the song name. Not only it will provide information such as Song name, Artist name, Album (or Movie) name, but will also display a ‘Buy’ button for the user to purchase the song directly from the iTunes store.

“Hey Siri”

Siri, since its launch has been incredible. And with this iOS 8 update, users can even more easily activate Siri. All users need to say is “Hey Siri”, allowing users to give hands-free commands. What more could an iOS user ask for?

Family Sharing

Family sharing is a feature in the new iOS 8 which allows users to add accounts of family members, who can share any app or digital download, i.e. music, movies, etc. This also allows a family to share calendars to keep events in sync. This feature also extends into the Photo app, wherein one can contribute to family albums and access it at the same time. There is also a parental account function to monitor and approve any purchase made by kids in the family.

Custom Keyboards

Apple has now allowed users to integrate third party keyboards into their iOS device. At the same time, the native keyboard in iOS 8 will now feature word suggestions, which can speed up note-taking or any kind of extensive typing done on iPhone or iPad screens.

Continuity and Handoff

The release of iOS 8 will at last sync Apple computers, iPads or iPhones when it comes to most tasks. Emails started on one device can be picked up on another. SMS messages and even phone calls can be answered across devices. As for Web browsing in Safari, the ‘handoff’ feature will allow users to pick up the same Web pages across devices. Although, it comes with a catch, you have to be signed into iCloud to use this feature.

Panoramic Mode for the iPad

Previously available only for the iPhone, Apple launched the Panoramic mode for the camera in the iPad, which means iPad users can now click Panoramas with iPads!
