Facebook Founder, Mark Zuckerberg Turns 30: Seven Little Known Facts About Him

Facebook founder, Mark Elliot Zuckerberg turned 30 yesterday, i.e, 14 May 2014. The popular social network hero became the youngest billionaire in the world at the age of 23 in the year 2008 and has a net worth of over $26.3 Billion (as of 14/5/2014, 10:50PM). Here are some little known facts about the young social giant:

#1: Declined Job Offers

While in high school, Zuckerberg co-developed a music app called ‘Synapse Media Player’. Reportedly, technology giants Microsoft and AOL offered a million dollar and wanted him to further develop the app for them. He declined the offer and chose the join Harvard, instead.

#2: A Harvard Dropout

Mark Zuckerberg studied computer science with minor in psychology at Harvard. He developed a website called ‘Facemash’, which asked users to judge female students on the basis of physical appearance. But the website didn’t do well with the students and the college authorities.

On February 4, 2014 Zuckerberg launched another website called ‘TheFacebook.com’ (present known as ‘Facebook.com’) a social network website that allowed users to create profiles including some basic details and information about them. Facebook was initially open only for Harvard Grads, but was made open to public in 2006.

#3: Color Blind

Zuckerberg is red-green color blind, that’s the reason behind Facebook’s all blue color. Zuckerberg reportedly once said, “Blue is the richest colour for me. I can see all of blue.”

#4: Worst Dressed

Zuckerberg topped the GQ’s List for the ‘Worst Dressed Men‘ in the year 2011. GQ wrote, “Oblivious to the fact that jeans and ties come in skinny sizes—or that suits exist—the father of Facebook (and we do mean father) loves to recycle the fresh-from-Stats-class look. Zuck’s style is so poor, it even inspired a mock fashion line, Mark By Mark Zuckerberg, which thankfully doesn’t sell any actual clothing.”

#5: Youngest Billionare

Well, you might not believe this fact, but it is the truth. Zuckerberg became the youngest billionaire in the world at the age of 23 in the year 2008. He was ranked 785 on the World’s Billionaires list. He even received an initial $500,000 investment from Peter Thiel, PayPal co-founder.


#6: $1 Salary

Just like Apple co-founder, Steve Jobs and Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin, Zuckerberg joined the $1-a-year club in the year 2013. In the year 2012, he was drawing $503,205 and that huge amount dropped to $1 in the year 2013. Besides this, he owns 426.3 million shares of Facebook stock, which are currently valued at $25.68 billion.

#7: Pet Dog, Beast

Zuckerberg owns a Puli (a type of Hungarian Sheepdog) pet dog named Beast. The surprising fact about this dog is that it has a Facebook Page with over 1.8 million likes!
