Low-cost 'rainbow-phones' rumoured for Apple

Apple is reportedly tasting the rainbow this week, as rumours emerge regarding a new coloured iPhone range.

Chinese tech site WeiPhone leaked an image of the alleged chassis that is set to bring some life back to the arguably stale iPhone.

The new casing definitely looks more plasticky, which makes us think this could be the long-rumoured budget iPhone range. The photo shows three colour variants of the device; yellow, pink, and green.

Price speculation has the cost set at around $350 USD, which isn’t exactly a tremendously cheap price, but it certainly knocks some pennies off the current iPhone pricing. No doubt the new budget editions will lose some kick in the way of specs too, to help keep costs down.

There is, of course, no official word from Apple regarding the coloured range, or even the budget range, although CEO Tim Cook has said “We’ve had a great track record on iPod of offering different products at different price points”, a statement which bodes well for a cheaper range production.

Apple’s use of colour helped garner the iMac some much needed attention back in late 90’s, with a large variety of candy-bright colours making them deliciously attractive to the consumer. Apple’s reworked iOS 7 logos are also brighter and fit the old rainbow Apple colour scheme.

We’ll just have to wait and see Apple’s next move. Would you like to see a budget iPhone range? How about some colour to replace your old monochromatic tech? Tell us how you feel in the comments.
