16th Annual DICE Awards Round Up

The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences holds DICE every year to celebrate the gaming culture. One of gaming’s most prestigious trade shows, winning an award at DICE is indeed considered among the greatest achievements in the industry.

****thatgamecompany‘s Journey swept the show, winning eight awards. Unconventional to the core, Journey is indeed deserving of all the praise it gets. It managed to bag prizes for ‘Outstanding Innovation in Gaming’, ‘Casual Game of the Year’ and ‘Outstanding Achievement in Sound Design’, among others. It also won the ‘Game Of The Year’, making it the finest effort by any developer this year.

Journey – Winning Big

‘Action Game Of The Year’  went to the well deserving Borderlands 2. Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead also hit home big, winning ‘Outstanding Achievement In Story’, ‘Downloadable Game Of The Year’, ‘Best Character Performance’ for Lee Everett, and ‘Adventure Game Of The Year’. Bringing back old style adventure games into a new era, the game is really one of the shining examples of what gaming can do as a medium. Everyone should play it once.

The rest went as expected, with Mass Effect 3 winning the RPG prize, FIFA 13 taking the Sport prize, and Need For Speed: Most Wanted winning the Racing category, and XCOM: Enemy Unkown bagging the Strategy category. There were a lot of other smaller categories, which you can find below.

On a personal note, I feel Dishonored got a little shafted. It was really the finest game I played last year, and deserved at least a shout out.
