As expected, Xiaomi has announced the Mi Band 2 in China. The intelligent fitness tracker is the successor to the Xiaomi Mi Band, which was announced last year. What set the Mi Band apart was the fact that it was an inexpensive tracker and performed functions like sleep tracking that not every other tracker at its time could do. Add to it that the Mi Band came with swappable strap bands, you had a product that was extremely successful and popular.
As expected Xiaomi has carried forward everything that was good with the Mi Band and added some more goodness to the world in the Mi Band 2. The Mi band 2 comes with a .42 inch OLED display for displaying time, steps and other notifications. There is an optical heart rate sensor built into the Mi band 2 and there is an updated pedometer algo to go with.
The band retains a grand battery life, which would see your band requiring a rendezvous with a charger only after 20 days. The Mi Band 2 will come with hypoallergic silicone bands, which can be replaced based upon the choice of the user. The display can be turned on either by simply lifting your wrist or pressing a tap button. The device is just 7 grams heavy, which makes it really comfortable to hold. There is IP 67 rating too, so that you can submerge the watch in water without much of an issue.
The Mi Band 2 has been launched at a price of 149 Yuan, which is about Rs 1520 in China. There is no word on the global launch yet.
