Starting from the Apple Watch, Apple introduced new products in almost all its segments. We got a look at the all new iPad Pro, new generation Apple TV and of course, the new ‘two and only’ iPhones. Apple introduced the new iPhones saying, ‘Only Thing Changed is Everything.’
The new iPhones, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus, available in gold, silver, space gray, and the new rose gold feature an A9 chip, 3D Touch, ultrafast LTE Advanced wireless, a 12MP iSight camera, and iOS 9.
Just like the previous generation, the iPhone features a 4.7″ Retina HD Display on the smaller variant and 5.5″ Retina HD Display on the Plus variant. The displays are now protected by the ‘Strongest Ever’ glass cover. LED-backlit widescreen with next-generation Multi‑Touch display with IPS technology and Taptic Engine accompany the new iPhones. The biggest change to the display, the 3D Touch, pretty much the same as the Force Touch, introduced with the 2015 MacBook. 3D Touch enables users to forcefully tap on the screen and the phone will measure the pressure applied to perform different tasks accordingly. iPhone 6s and 6s Plus feature the same resolution display as the previous generation. 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401ppi for iPhone 6s Plus and 1334×750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi for iPhone 6s.
Upgrading from 8-megapixel, we know have 12-megapixel iSight camera with 1.22µ pixels. We also have 4K video recording (3840×2160) at 30 fps. There were many camera upgrades waiting for the 6s and we got most. 6S Plus brings in video OIS (Optical Image Stabilisation) but we still don’t have OIS on 4.7″ iPhone. We have the ability to take 8MP still photos while recording 4K video. Slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps and 720p at 240 fps is still there. The panorama feature now has capability to catch up to 63 megapixels. The biggest announcement for me was ‘Live Photos.’ These are aren’t videos, they are images, kinda like GIFs but with high resolution and high frame per second. You can take live photos just as you take a regular photo but it will record an second and a half on either end. The facetime camera has 5-megapixel shooter capable of 720p HD video recording and the new Retina Flash.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s feature the new A9 processor with embedded M9 motion coprocessor. The A9 chip is Apple’s 3rd generation of 64-bit architecture chip. In the sensor department, we have Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Barometer, Three-axis gyro, Accelerometer, Proximity sensor and Ambient light sensor. The Touch ID is upgraded and is said to be twice as fast. iPhones will be available in 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB variant.
The iPhone 6s look absolutely similar to the iPhone 6 the only noticeable differences are the ‘s’ branding on the back, the new thickness and weight. Since the iPhone 3G, all the successive iPhone has been thinner but both the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are a bit thicker than their respective predecessors. Both of them are heavier as well, but shouldn’t notice the difference. You will also be able to recognise a 6s if you see the all new Rose Gold colour.
There’s quite changed about them, but not quite enough to make you wanna switch from iPhone 6. The official iPhone lineup starts with iPhone 5s as the base model. The pre-orders for the new iPhones begin 12th September and begins at $649 (Rs. 42,000) for iPhone 6s and $749 (Rs. 48,000) for iPhone 6s Plus.
