Microsoft launches Previews for Office 2016 and Skype for Business

In many announcements made by Satya Nadella at the 2015 Convergence conference in Atlanta, were the launch announcement of Office 2016 and Skype for Business. Microsoft is now allowing IT professionals and developers to access a preview version of Office 2016 and Skype for Business. You can sign up for Microsoft’s Office 2016 preview and the previews are available for download now.

Microsoft will update this preview version of Office 2016 on a monthly basis. It plans to launch a true consumer preview of Office 2016 sometime later this year. Microsoft says that some of the new features in this preview version include Data Loss Protection for Word, Excel and PowerPoint, multi-factor authentication for Outlook, and more. One thing that Microsoft says they are not changing in this release is macros and add-ins.

Alongside the Office 2016 preview, Microsoft is also launching a test version of Skype for Business.  Skype for Business looks very similar to the consumer version of Skype, with the ability to integrate closely into various Office apps. A final version of Skype for Business will be available in April, and you can sign up to the preview over at Microsoft’s evaluation site. This new version of Skype is a replacement for Lync, Microsoft’s primary communications tool for businesses.
