Gionee recently came up with their next flagship model, called the Gionee Elife E7. While the Indian markets are crowded with smartphones coming up every second day, Gionee knows how to make its space in the market place. Just like the Gionee Elife S6, the Gionee Elife S7 was a breakthrough for Gionee. The Gionee Elife E7 comes with a moderate price of Rs. 26,999 for the 16GB version and the 32GB version will cost you Rs. 29,999.
The Gionee Elife E7 might not be the premium phone you might be looking for when it comes to looks. The glossy finish on the rear side makes it difficult to hold and might cause the device to slip off your hands.
On the front side of the device, you will find the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection with three capacitive keys – home, back and menu. The 5.5-inch with thin bezels make the device attractive and sporty. You will also find the 8MP camera right next to the speakers. The rear side of the device includes the bulged out 16MP camera, with the LED flash underneath it. We can also find the Gionee branding on the back. The button placement on the Gionee Elife E7 might not be perfect, since managing the power button located on the upper edge becomes a little difficult on a screen so large. The speaker grills are to be found on the lower edge, which seems to be an ideal position – in comparison to the large number of phones being manufactured with the speakers on the back side.
In terms of the looks and the design, the device seems to be great. The 5.5-inch screen, packed in a body which weighs so less seems to be a charm to use. The back, which was expected to attract fingerprints, gladly doesn’t do so.
The Gionee Elife E7 comes with a smart 5.5-inch Full-HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, which later translates to 401ppi. Not forgetting how important it is to protect screens, the Gionee Elife E7 comes with a Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The display seems to be pretty sharp, with the images and the video being displayed in true colours.
The display, is a little reflective when it comes to using it in bright light or outdoors, but the phone is quite convenient to use when it comes to indoor usage. The phone’s viewing angles are great, and the colours hold true even at the deepest angle you might hold the phone at, with respect to your eye.
The phone will not disappoint you when talking about the camera factor, it comes with a 16MP rear camera (with auto focus) and a 8MP front camera, for all your selfie requirements. The photos captured indoors are nicely focused and the light captured is quite adequate. The photos captured by the Gionee Elife E7’s camera are 4608 x 3456 pixels.
When it comes to camera technology, we find out that Gionee Elife E7 comes with a OmniVision OV16825 camera sensor. The 16MP profile is packs a larger 1.34µm pixels as compared to standard camera profiles. The backlighting technology is also based on the BSI-2 standard. So the camera hardware seems to be pretty good, but we shall see how well do the images look in the camera samples below.
The video recording in the Gionee Elife E7 are available in both 720p and 1080p, with 720p being the default recording option. The advantage that the Gionee Elife E7 owners will have is the ability to refocus the videos while recording the videos. The capturing options offered by the default camera application are HDR, Auto scene, V-singh shot, Touch shot, Smile shot, Geo tagging and Self timer.
The smartphone comes with two cameras applications, the first one is the default camera application and the other option available for the users is the CharmCam, the users who love to have funky and edited photos.
The Gionee Elife E7 boasts the powerful processor and the hardware it features. It is the first of the Gionee devices to come with a Snapdragon processor. The smartphone is powered with a 2.2Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor supported with Adreno 330 GPU for your high performance and gaming requirements. The 16GB variant comes with 2GB RAM, while the 32GB variant offeres 3GB RAM.
The phone is smooth while dealing with multiple applications, but the performance drops down to a certain extent when applications like Asphalt 8 are made to run along with basic applications. The phone is one of the top scorers in the AnTuTu benchmarks, with a score of 34,700. When compared to the other smartphones, the Gionee Elife E7 score is quite close to that of the Galaxy Note 3.
Operating System and Features
The Gionee Elife E7 runs the Android 4.2.2, for which there have been quite a lot firmware updates recently, thereby removing the bugs and making the device for your use comfortable. The phone comes with the common User Interface as that of the other devices, that is, Amigo UI. There’s no menu tab on the homescreen – so all your applications get an icon on the main screen. The Amigo UI is also known for the variety of smart gestures offered.
Well, if you’re looking for a day long performance – this might not be an option for you since the Gionee Elife E7 comes with a backup of 2,500mAh. The phone will be comfortable to use if you don’t turn on your 3G/WiFi on throughout the day. There was about 2% drop in the battery when we tested the phone with a 10 minutes gaming with Temple Run 2.
If you are looking for a high-end premium Android phone with a fixed budget, then Gionee Elife E7 is the right smartphone for you. It comes with a fair price of Rs. 26,999 for the 16GB version and the 32GB variant will cost you Rs. 29,999. The battery might now impress you, but there are no options which can offer you a better battery life with the same specifications. The factor you might want to consider is the updates, buying a Gionee phone might not guarantee you regular updates, but if you go for other alternatives that include the Nexus 5, you will be delivered the latest updates at the earliest.
