Facebook Launches ‘Mentions’ – App for Public Figures

Facebook, from a long time, has been working on how to make their popular social networking website better for public figures. Facebook, a year back introduced verified profiles and pages. Verified profiles and pages were meant for Public Figures, Businesses, Bands, Government Officials and Journalists. But with the passage of time, interacting with the fans for Public Figures became a much more tedious job, with the growing number of fans.

“We are introducing Facebook Mentions, a new Facebook Creative Labs app that makes it easy for public figures to talk with their fans and each other on the go,” Facebook said.

Recently, Facebook introduced an application called ‘Mentions’ for public figures (with a verified profile), which allows celebrities to take a look at what is being discussed about them on the social networking website. The verified users can add new posts, and can even host a question & answer  right from the application. Currently, the application is only available to Verified Users in the US and yes, with am iOS device.

Facebook, in their blog post about the introduction of the new application said, “nearly 800 million people are connected to public figures on Facebook, and interacting with athletes, musicians, actors and other influencers is an important part of their experience. From cheering on World Cup players to checking out updates from favorite celebrities, there are more than a billion interactions between public figures and their fans on Facebook every week. We want to make these interactions even better.”

Here’s what the application is capable of doing:

  • Start a conversation with people and influencers who are talking about you.
  • Share updates, photos and videos and host live Q&As directly from your phone.
  • Join popular conversations: Discover what’s trending and add your voice to the story.
  • Get streamlined notifications about your posts, including mentions from other influencers or the media.
