During the BlackBerry’s quarterly call BlackBerry’s CEO, John Chen informed the media about their plans for the year 2014 which included the list of expected phones. The news that surprised everyone was BlackBerry’s plans to re-launch their QWERTY lineup, with a fresh look and feel. Chen informed the press about the upcoming QWERTY phablet phone, which they called ‘Passport’ which seems to be a odd-looking smartphone for usage in 2014.
The name ‘Passport’ seems to be quite appropriate, since the smartphone comes with a dimensions of a passport – that’s what I feel about this name. The Passport shall sport a 4.5-inch, 1440x1440p resolution square display, with a physical QWERTY keyboard. The keyboard seems to be quite awkward with such huge screen – making the keyboard quite wide. Chen even revealed some more details about the device that includes the 3GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and a 3450mAh battery. Chen even showed the device after the event was over and David Friend posted the image on Twitter. The Passport is said to be launched in September this year, in an event in London.

Apart from the BlackBerrt Passport, the other two devices said to be released this year are BlackBerry Z3 and the BlackBerry Classic (also known as the Q20). BlackBerry Classic seems to be more like the original BlackBerry Curve/Bold smartphones, running the latest operating system, BlackBerry OS 10 with physical buttons – Send, Menu, Back and End. It also has a trackpad, unlike the other QWERTY BlackBerry 10 devices. The device is said to be launched in the month of December this year.
